Does Learning from a High Ranking Distance School guarantee a Job?

In today’s era, there’s a huge emphasis placed on the importance of obtaining an advanced degree. In fact, almost every employer insists on having an advanced degree in management roles.

In an open letter written by Upwork CEO Stephanie Kasriel, she clearly states “Too often, degrees are still thought of as lifelong stamps of professional competency. They tend to create a false sense of security, perpetuating the illusion that work—and the knowledge it requires—is static. It’s not.”

This means that students are investing a tremendous amount of time, money and energy for degrees without any real guarantee of a financial payoff in the future.

So does it translate to skipping college and solely focussing on skills?

Not necessarily. But it’s essential to keep in mind that the workplace is a living, breathing thing, it changes with time, and you have to change accordingly. As such, what you learn in college puts you in a job, but it is not enough to get you through.

That’s why corporate skill enhancement programs are becoming so popular. But to get ahead of the competition, more and more people are also opting for online programs, so they can upskill without leaving their regular jobs and without investing lacs of rupees.

What if someone asks - Does learning from a high ranking distance school guarantee a job?

The answer would be - partially YES!

Jobs after distance learning

An online program will embed requisite skills in a student, but landing a job wholly depends on individual performance in tests and interviews. Having a degree doesn’t obligate any employer to hire you. If not correct, crores of unemployed degree holders will lose their title of unemployment.

The same rules are infused for college placements as well. An ivy league college is not a guarantee of placement, and neither does a mediocre one can stop you from getting placed. Hence you should hone your skills and get employed with the company of your choice.
